Global Management Trainee (GMT) at Asahi Beverages
Bachelor of Chemical Engineering (Honours) at Monash University
Where do you work?
Asahi Beverages
What’s your job about?
The GMT program is all about exposure and learning. In a year, we get the chance to experience all areas of the business, and a chance to sit down with all the leaders and ask them questions. We also get to use that knowledge in a capstone project, which is suited to our career goals and skills
What's your background?
I studied chemical engineering, and most of my work experience has been around the food and beverage space. My first job was in a winery, and from there I moved into food manufacturing. After that, I spent a couple of summers working in renewable food packaging and also had the opportunity to spend six months working in a green plastics start-up. And now I’ve gone full circle and ended back up in beverages!
What's the coolest thing about being a Asahi Beverages Graduate?
The sheer amount of exposure and connections. I’ve now got contacts in every country we operate in, as well as in every department of the business in Australia. People I feel comfortable asking stupid questions of!
What are the challenges you face in your job?
It’s very fast paced and there’s a lot of flexibility required. Sometimes, you get all of two weeks to complete and present a project, in an area you’ve never worked in. It’s exciting to look back and see how much you’ve achieved in that time, but it can be a bit daunting!
