Every month, millions of people across the world are downloading MongoDB to transform industries and build amazing apps that are used everyday. We believe that making data easy to work with allows our users the opportunity to free their genius and create something world-changing. The database market is massive (IDC estimates it to be $121B+ by 2025!) and MongoDB is at the head of its disruption. Join our team to help us ‘Think Big, Go Far’ this summer!

We’re seeking an individual passionate about improving the world through design and making technology accessible to more people. MongoDB Australia is looking for a Product Design Intern to help us create user experiences that are not only easy to use - they are wanted and enjoyed by our customers too.

As an intern you will collaborate closely with Senior Product Designers to gain practical product design experience. You will determine and advocate for user needs, make design decisions, and balance those with business objectives and engineering trade-offs, to create user experiences that will make an impact in our data visualisation product, MongoDB Charts. You will develop an understanding of MongoDB Charts users through established user research, competitive analysis, common behavior patterns, and advocate for user needs. Also, you will collaborate with designers, product managers, engineers and stakeholders to discover, define, design and develop user experiences for MongoDB Charts, and partner with the MongoDB Charts team and Design Systems team to develop and implement your work.

Who we are looking for in you

  • In the process of completing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, or certificate, in Design, Information Technology, Human Computer Interaction, Interaction Design, User Experience Design, Digital Media Design, or currently studying related fields
  • Interested in prototyping, designing, testing, implementing, and evaluating user experiences for web based applications
  • Familiar with usability heuristics and best practices in UX Design and Visual Design
  • Experience with prototyping and are able to create process diagrams and low fidelity wireframes
  • Experience with UI design and are able to create high fidelity mockups and component specifications
  • You are beginning to learn the different research methods to test assumptions and validate design decisions
  • Have a portfolio of work, or projects, that highlights your design deliverables, design process, role on the project, and includes case studies of research

What you’ll find at MongoDB

  • A workplace culture where you are encouraged to bring your whole self to work - we believe that Embracing the Power of Differences is the best way to broaden our own perspectives and foster innovation
  • Hands-on mentorship from MongoDB employees who are passionate about developing your skills and helping you grow
  • Membership within our Affinity Groups where you can gain mentorship and learning opportunities from employees with a shared background or common identity
  • Impactful projects where you can Make it Matter - your meaningful work will see the light of day
  • Insight from groundbreakers in tech, including our executives and department leaders through networking events
  • A fun community of fellow interns to spend the summer with and attend social events, hangouts, and games nights
  • A chance to see if MongoDB is where you see yourself long-term with the possibility of receiving a full-time offer at the end of the summer!

This program is open to students with Australian or New Zealand citizenship or Australian Permanent Residency expecting to graduate in the next 12-24 months. MongoDB internships are full-time (40 hours/week) for 10 consecutive weeks lasting from dates in December to early February.

The coolest thing about my job is the team that I get to work with! The Storage Engines team is a globally distributed and diverse group of individuals, and everyone is very open to sharing their experiences.

The code that the storage engines team manages has cutting-edge algorithms. We have a few select people who read research papers to make sure that we are always the most efficient. I found that so cool!
