Application Process & Interviews at Powerco

2 to 1 interview process held remotely over Microsoft Teams. A very comfortable space to allow you to talk and express your strengths, weaknesses, expectations and uncertainties. I went through 2 different interview processes: Internship and Graduate Role. Both these interviews had a very similar approach.

Submitted my CV and cover letter, had an interview, got an email a couple of months later saying I got it.

Why I was interested in joining the graduate program. What type of areas I was most interested in and why. What type of areas I was least interested in and why. How flexible I was with regards to travels and staying away from home on the odd occasion. If I was willing to move. What types of papers I covered during my Electrical Engineering Diploma.

About previous work experience, my background, and a few technical questions.

There was a technical question on Power Factor, then there was a question about how do I deal with stress.

What are your passions? This is the main one that stood out to me that showed me that Powerco cared about its employees.

What do you see yourself in 5 years

Typical job interview tips. Dress smartly. Good sitting posture. Speak clearly. Good eye contact. Introduce yourself if you don't know the interviewers. Maybe a light, off topic bit of banter at the start to break the ice and get the ball rolling. (Small talk, weather, sports game, weekend activity - nothing too heavy). Try to limit the amount of sentence word fillers like "ahh" and "um". Don't cut the interviewer off when they are speaking. Anticipate some common questions several days before the interview and prepare and practice some responses out loud. Try to be honest. Stay on topic. Don't talk for too long as this may lead to going off topic, or even forgetting what the initial point was in the first place. With regards to the power distribution industry, think about what you are most interested in, what you are least interested in, what you think you would be best at and where you would like improve in.

Have some knowledge on three-phase power systems.

Ensure you have had your morning coffee if you have a morning interview.
