Your new role

A new opening has become available to join Sims’ Engineering team in our Mascot office. Undertake your own research and put your problem-solving skills to the test alongside a team of friendly and passionate engineers. The successful candidate will work on the full life cycle of projects, from conception through to system design, implementation, deployment, and commissioning. You will be working on a wide range of industrial control systems providing excellent avenues to learn and develop.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Fully executing control system designs in PLC/SCADA
  • Applying engineering concepts and designs to produce efficient technical solutions that meet the project requirements
  • Provide control systems support and technical assistance for breakdowns and production critical issues
  • Investigate, identify and resolve the root cause of downtime associated with control systems
  • Design and implement secure IT/OT network solutions
  • Produce initiatives to deliver continuous improvement in the areas of safety, technology, design, innovation, reliability, and throughput
  • Communicate openly, effectively to achieve objectives
  • Maintain close working relationships with all areas of the business relating to the Engineering Department.

Note: This role will require occasional travels from 1 to 3 months per year within the Australia/New-Zealand region to assist with project delivery.   

Essential Criteria:

  • A minimum of 4 Year Engineering Degree in Electrical, Mechatronics Computer Engineering, or Software Engineering
  • Australian driver’s licence
  • Demonstrated PLC, and SCADA experience
  • IT/OT networking experience
  • Demonstrated fieldwork experience within a factory, mining or heavy industry environment
  • Proven ability to try new things and adapt to change quickly
  • Building Computer PC Hardware and Software
  • Previous experience managing virtual machine Computer Server/Client Virtualised environments (physical servers based on site)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Desirable criteria:

Experience / knowledge of any of the following:

  • Siemens PLC’s and SCADA
  • Industrial Networks (Ethernet, Profibus, Profinet, Modbus, Devicenet etc)
  • Microsoft SQL Database
  • Variable speed drives
  • Programming Languages, C++, Visual Basic, VBScript
  • Electrical Motors / Variable Speed Drives
  • Pneumatics
  • Hydraulics
  • Machine Safety Systems
  • Camera Systems, visible and infrared
  • AutoCAD 2D, AutoCAD Vault
