Pros & Cons

  • Good work ethics and opportunity to learn from experts.
  • The inclusive and welcoming nature of our office and all the people here, and the fact that I'm continuously learning.
  • The work culture, and support available.
  • The amount of different jobs I can work on in one week. I never get stuck in the same job for long.
  • Experienced Mentor opportunities to go the site and learned from experienced engineers. helping hands and open to any questions.
  • Fast-paced at times.
  • Hours worked can be quite variable due to the nature of projects which can sometimes affect commitments outside of work.
  • The most challenging part is the physical labour, but it's also rewarding and helping me achieve a higher purpose.
  • Can sometimes be an information overload.
  • It would have been much better if there are working alone/remote guidelines.

My manager is great and has been an awesome mentor to me and shared very useful information with me that helped me really settle into the position very well. I have received lots of positive feedback for my good work and some great guidance on what I can work on to improve.

Office Work Environment
Awesome office space and facilities, and the location of the office is good. There's no real strict dress code but we are provided with uniform which is amazing - it makes getting ready for work so simple and it's great that I don't have to spend money on clothes for work.

DP provided a pay increase shortly after I commenced working. The leave in lieu arrangement for overtime is a suitable system.

Training
There are constant opportunities for training, including weekly training on Fridays, training on new sampling techniques/environmental concerns (from project managers and colleagues), online modules to complete (technical, cyber security, self-development). I'm doing a 7 habits of effective people course which goes over a few months which I've already found helpful.

Work Hours
Very good, I have a fair amount of flexibility in my start time (as long as I start at the appropriate time when I've got field work on and organised a subcontractor). I'm happy in this regard. If I need to work less hours for some reason, my manager is understanding when I explain why.

We have solar panels and I know that one of our offices has made charging stations available (solar powered) to employees with an EV. We also have a sustainability group, which I've signed up to join.
